Autumn Waves took three years to produce; Face In The Crowd, the band’s fourth album, took less than four months! Refreshed, the band reformed after a spell apart to embark on their next project with new ideas and inspiration.
Face In the Crowd is more upbeat and exciting than the first three albums; it kicks off with “Please Don’t Start Tonight”, a Police-esque ditty about the perils of living next door to noisy neighbours! Other tracks of particular note include “Love at First Sight (For a Second Time)” about rediscovering an old flame; “Mr. Harper II”, a country and western update on everbody’s favourite local celebrity (he knows who he is); and “Funky Feeling” a track you can really dance to. Gary originally wanted to call it “The Funky Monkey Dance” but Chris protested strongly against the use of the word “Monkey” in any Broken Watch song!
“Face In The Crowd”, the song, features an unusual guitar-synthesiser effect which gives it it’s haunting feel.
The album cover, if you look closely, is a crowd scene made up entirely of Chris, Ricks and Garys! It’s amazing what you can do with a computer these days!
Critically acclaimed (at least by parents and close friends), Face In The Crowd is set to become the band’s most successful album to date.
